Several years ago, I took a week long trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) along the Minnesota/Canada border. For more than a million acres there’s nothing but lakes, trees, rocks and total wilderness. There were four of us on the trip paddling our canoes and portaging (picking the canoes and packs up and hiking to the next lake). For days, that’s all we did: paddle and portage, paddle and portage. Over steep, rocky hills and through muddy, swampy valleys.

And it nearly did me in!

It was one of the most physically demanding things I’ve ever done and it was certainly not something I planned on doing again…

But that’s the thing about plans.
They change.

A few weeks ago, at the age of 64, I made the same trip with the same guys. Though we trekked the same places and carried the same canoes and the same 40 pound backpacks. Though the same mosquitoes bit and the same rains got us wet, something was very different …

That something was me.
I’m 60 pounds lighter than I was the last time I took that trip.
And let me tell you… those 60 pounds make a big difference in the wilderness. So much so that the other guys kept commenting on it. I think they were relieved they didn’t have to “carry” me too.


At least once a day, while carrying a heavy backpack up a rocky hill or tromping through ankle/knee deep mud, I thanked God for CBS. And I can’t wait to see what other plans will change for the better because of it!

Results vary. Clients on the Clean, Burn and Shape Program can expect to lose 2.5 – 5.4 lbs during the first 10 days and 1.3 – 3.3 lbs per week for the remaining 90 days of the program.
